International phone calls can be expensive. But they are not as expensive everywhere. International phone calls originating in North America, for instance, are far cheaper than phone calls originating in Eastern Europe. Similarly, phone calls to North America are generally cheaper than phone calls made to the developing world. What can you do if you are in Poland and you want to call Kenya or India? Obviously, a phone call from Poland to India will be expensive. But does this mean that you have to limit the types of international connections you make? After all, we are now living in a truly global economy, where money and services flow across international borders in directions never before considered. That call has to be placed, and it would seem that you will just have to face the facts and pay the high rates. Or do you? The fact is, with a callback service, you can avoid having to pay high domestic long distance charges.

How do callback systems save you money?

As you already know, it would be far cheaper for someone in Poland to call the United States than it would be to call India. Similarly, it would be far cheaper for someone in the United States to call India than it would for someone in Poland to call India. The less developed world just does not have the high level of telecommunications infrastructure and competition that has driven down international telephone call rates in the United States and Canada. Fortunately, there is now a way for you to tap in to the relatively cheap telecommunication networks used in the developed world. With a callback service, you calls are routed through a developed country’s telecommunications network, such as the United States. How can this save you money? Take this example (with hypothetical numbers): A call from Portugal to the Philippines costs $0.50/minute. A call from Portugal to the United States, on the other hand, costs $0.15/minute, while a call from the United States to the Philippines only costs $0.20/minute. Therefore, if you can place an inbound call to the United States and an outbound call to the Philippines, you will only have to pay $0.35/minutes as opposed to the $0.50/minute you would pay if you made a direct telephone call.

How do I use a callback service?

Using a callback service is no more difficult than using your phone. Generally, you will first sign up with a callback service provider, which will give you a telephone number for you to use in the United States. To place a long distance call, you dial the number provided for you, wait for one ring, and then hang up. The service will the call you back. When you pick up the phone, you will be greeted with a dial tone, allowing you to enter your actual destination number. The callback service will then connect your call. For added convenience, when you use the callback service on www.colsoncommunications.com, you can now initiate a call online.
